Chris Sale’s return from injury has been made a lot easier by facing the Baltimore Orioles twice already, and he gets a third chance to dominate them tonight. The Boston Red Sox are 2-0 against Baltimore when Sale starts, with a plus-20 run differential. Overall the Red Sox lead the season series 12-4 with 11 of those wins by two-plus runs, including 6 straight and 6 of 8 at Camden Yards.
The Orioles are sending Bruce Zimmermann to the mound tonight fresh off a rehab assignment. He’s likely to be on a pitch count, meaning more time for the Red Sox to punish a Baltimore bullpen with the highest ERA and 2nd-highest xFIP in baseball. Boston desperately needs this game to maintain its position in the wild card race, and they should get it easily with their ace on the mound.
Arizona Diamondbacks @ San Francisco Giants -1.5 (-130): 8:45 PM CT on NBC Sports – Bay Area
Logan Webb is incredible, an absolute win machine all summer long. Since early May, the San Francisco Giants have lost twice when Webb starts, and both were in extra innings. Webb has been truly excellent at home, posting a 1.76 ERA, and the Giants have never lost one of his home starts. Strangely enough, he hasn’t faced the Arizona Diamondbacks yet this season, but I don’t think it will go well for the Snakes as they’re 30th in OPS, 29th in average, and 27th in scoring against right-handers like Webb.
The Giants should also continue to crush D’Backs starter Luke Weaver, as they have a career .341 average and .899 OPS against him. Weaver also has a 7.94 road ERA and Arizona has lost his last 3 starts by at least 3 runs. The Giants are on a roll right now, have dominated this season series 14-2, and need to continue that to maintain their division lead. This game is a big mismatch and should see San Fran run away with it.
