MLB (1 Unit) L.A. Dodgers Team Total Over 4.5 (-110): 9:00 PM CT on ESPN

As the San Diego Padres play out the string, they’re allowing Ryan Weathers to get another start, which is a strong indication that their playoff hopes are dwindling.

Weathers was kicked out of his starter’s role and moved to the bullpen this month after a 6-start stretch saw him compile a 13.50 ERA and 2.13 WHIP. Not surprisingly, every one of those opposing teams cleared this team total, as have the past 11 teams when Weathers even appears in the game. The Los Angeles Dodgers haven’t been scoring quite like you’d expect them to, but a game against Weathers and September call-up relievers could change that in a hurry.

With Max Scherzer going for the Dodgers tonight, it’s hard to imagine much scoring coming from the Padres. So I’ll isolate the Dodgers here and look for them to tee off on some bad pitching.

MLB (1 Unit) Oakland A’s @ Seattle Mariners (+100): 9:10 PM CT on SportsNet NW

I’ll admit to starting to cheer for this Seattle Mariners “little team that could” as we finally reach the end of the baseball season. I didn’t expect them to beat the Oakland A’s again last night with a pitching disadvantage, but they just keep winning, and I think they do it here again.

It’s another pitching matchup of winless versus undefeated tonight, probably to be expected with Seattle now moving to 14-4 against the A’s on the year. Oakland is 0-2 when starter Frankie Montas has faced Seattle this season, and his numbers are ugly as the Mariners bats have a .323 average and 1.233 OPS against him. Conversely, Logan Gilbert has 3 starts against Oakland that have produced 3 Mariners wins, and the A’s are only batting .205 with a .626 OPS against him.

Seattle is surging down the stretch, still with an outside shot at the division title and right in the thick of the wild card race. Against an Oakland team that looks to be out of it, I think this pitching mismatch gives the Mariners their 12th straight win in the series tonight.
