National Media Continues To Exaggerate Green Bay "Trust" Narrative

When Green Bay hired Matt Lafluer it was “Will Aaron Rodgers trust Matt Lafluer?”

When the Packers lost in the playoffs it was “Why doesn’t Matt Lafluer trust Aaron Rodgers?”

The next two offseasons it was “Aaron doesn’t trust this front office.”

And now it’s “Can Aaron trust these young receivers?”

Trust. Trust. Trust.

If you walked into a production meeting at ESPN or Fox sports right now I assume on their giant board there’s a huge Green Bay Packers logo right next to, in all capital letters, the word TRUST. Just so their employees are constantly reminded of how they get clicks. Sow the seeds of dysfunction and the views and reads will follow.

I’m not exactly sure why the blue checkmark brigade put a target on Green Bay‘s back a few years ago but they’ve been slinging arrows ever since. What I do know is they are trying desperately to convince you there’s some emotional dysfunction in this franchise that just doesn’t exist.

Their latest attempt with Green Bay‘s rookie wide receivers is as see-through as a mosquito net. They act like this transition to young players wasn’t and isn’t fully understood by everyone. Did you know going from the best wide receiver in the NFL to rookies might be hard? Did you know Romeo Doubs and Christian Watson might not immediately be Davante Adams?

Who didn’t understand this?

But instead of choosing to focus on how the Packers have changed their offense and their overall roster to better prepare them for sustainable playoff success, the national sports media wants to convince you a quarterback, coach, and general manager we’re all too stupid to understand that they might lose Davante Adams. That they are all to proud and stubborn to deal with what’s in front of them in any successful way.

Well let me give you some information that you can absolutely TRUST.

In week 3 Romeo Doubs led the team with 8 targets and a 22% target share, 8 receptions, and 73 yards. And oh by the way he caught a touchdown.

After three weeks in the league here is where Doubs ranks among rookie WRs:

– 1st in catch%, 87.5
– 1st in passer rating when targeted, 123.2
– 1st in YAC, 87
– 4th in catches 14
– 4th in receiving yards 137

Seems pretty trustworthy to me.

The professional yellers on morning shows will continue to yell. But we all know what’s happening here. Brian Gutekunst’s vision is becoming a reality. He walked into a team that was very good but not quite built for playoff success and has been slowly changing it. He built an elite-level defense and a top-notch running game. He has a Hall of Fame quarterback who has desperately wanted those things throughout his career. Everyone has bought in and this is the best team, wide receivers included, that the Packers have put out in years. You can TRUST that.

Needs and draft class strength are at odds for the Green Bay Packers. This year’s class is deep along the offensive line and at cornerback, two areas […]
