Stop With The Jordan Love Nonsense

As the final seconds ticked off the clock on Sunday, in the most embarrassing loss of the Aaron Rodgers era, I sat and thought to myself…

”Is there a chance that we’re gonna to start to hear some Jordan Love chatter?”

Then I quickly came to my senses. No, don’t be absurd. This is Aaron Rodgers. This the most physically gifted quarterback in the history of the NFL. The back to back reigning NFL MVP. A man who has given everything to this franchise and more importantly is financially committed to it for the foreseeable future. He has not been great this year but surely Aaron Rodgers is immune to the whims of a media and fan driven quarterback controversy.

And then Monday came.

“Jordan Love could throw two picks in the end zone from the 1 in the first 16 minutes, too, if you let him,” said NFL reporter Jason La Canfora.

On a podcast, De’Vondre Campbell said that Love is “better than a lot of starting quarterbacks in the NFL” and every clickbait football site on the internet is running with it.

Even LeRoy Butler got in on the action.

“OK, say you lose three more games,” Butler said on CBS Sports’ Maggie and Perloff show. “Look at that in perspective. You got the Cowboys — best defense — I mean the defense — Micah Parsons, oh my goodness. And then you play, when they put my name up in the ring of honor, the Titans. They got a young quarterback. That defense gets after you as well, then you got the Eagles, best team in the league.

Ater that point, if you’ve lost those games, you’ve got to get Jordan Love in there at some point, because there’s no playoffs. I mean, there’s no playoffs, you’re not in the playoffs. You have to find out at some point can Jordan Love play because you can’t get rid of Aaron Rodgers because of his contract. But you can find a way to get Jordan Love some work to just kind of find out what you’re going to have in a few years.”

Every fan forum on the internet is filled with the when do you put Love in debate.

Have you all lost your damn mind? Although Butler‘s point is at least based in good football theory about seeing what you have in your asset, this is all complete buffoonery.

Aaron Rodgers has not been great this year, and he was outright terrible on Sunday in Detroit. But he’s not even a top-five issue on this football team. Although it’s true that when quarterbacks fall off a cliff they really fall off a cliff, Rodgers has showed absolutely no signs of physical decline.

His all world left tackle is now just average, he has no weapons, his defense is under performing, and his coaching staff is outmatched. Why the hell would you bench an ultimate competitor regardless of where the seasons at when these other things are going on.

“If you get Jordan Love in there and he’s great you can trade him.” Yeah what happens when he goes in with all of this other bad stuff around him and is terrible and he loses value?

“I’m sick of Rodgers’ body language and always blaming everybody else.” Grow up. Star quarterbacks have been acting out there frustration on the football field for as long as football has existed. Quit buying into the national media narrative that there is some secret unhappiness behind his emotions and just except the truth, he wants to win and he’s pissed off when things don’t go right.

The truth is the fan base and even the outside looking in have become spoiled. They are so used to the excellency of this team. Every NFL organization goes through bad points. Although this might be an all time low for these Packers, think of the consecutive success they’ve had under Rodger. They’ve had 13 wins the last three years and he’s the back-to-back MVP and the first time things don’t go well for 8 games we’re gonna turn our back on him. Garbage.

Peter Bukowski be damned. This guy looks like he still has the ability to play as long as he wants. As a true Packer fan, I want him to be our starting quarterback every minute of that time. So buy into the drama if you must. Be an armchair quarterback if you need. Not me. I rode in with Aaron Rodgers and I’m going down swinging with him as our quarterback.
