Packers Debut New-Look Helmet In "Icy-White" Uniforms

Even though the Green Bay Packers have one of the most iconic uniforms in American sports, they introduced a new alternate uniform they will wear this year. The most significant change is the new-look helmet that will debut with it.

The Packers posted a video on Twitter modeling their brand-new icy-white uniforms, which include white jerseys, pants, and helmets.

The new uniforms resemble the all-white color rush uniforms that Green Bay wore mainly on Thursday nights from the 2016 season to 2022. However, they still wore their gold helmets with their old color rush jerseys.

Green Bay’s white helmet is the first new helmet they’ve debuted since they started wearing the modern gold helmet in 1961.

The Packers have used different helmets when they’ve worn throwback uniforms. However, they’ve never worn a white helmet before, and my goodness, is it beautiful.

With teams all over the NFL playing in alternate uniforms, it was time for Green Bay to adopt a new look. The Vikings did the same with their “Winter Warrior” white alternates.

The most exciting part of this set is the new white helmet. Many football teams have chosen to go all-white when playing on the road. The Wisconsin Badgers wear a special helmet with a white facemask on the road. More NFL teams are adopting all-white looks. It’s basically the newer version of the blackout.

This is the best aesthetic change the Packers have undergone in a long time. We all know about the ugly navy blue and beige combo they wore for years. Thankfully, they put those to rest and brought out the all-green uniforms with gold numbers instead, which gave them a better throwback look.

If I have to nitpick, they should add a little more gold to the helmet.

Don’t get me wrong, the white helmet is clean and looks great, but the G on the side is not outlined in the gold oval, and the stripe on top of the helmet is only green and white. That sort of gives it a New York Jets look. The Packers should have incorporated a little bit of gold on the logo and definitely on the stripe of the helmet. If they had made the stripe match the jersey sleeve and pants stripes, with two green stripes on the outside and one gold stripe on the inside, the helmets would look even better.

Many Packers fans have seen the all-gold uniform concept that graphic designers have posted on the internet. Some gold jerseys are available for sale online, and Madden has included it as an alternate option.

Even though the Packers didn’t receive the all-gold look when the color rush uniforms came out, having the white helmet with the all-white look this year brings them a step closer to those.

Ultimately, these icy whites look really good, and changing up the helmet adds a little bit of swag to Green Bay’s look. Lambeau Field should also have the fans dressed in all white as if it were a night game at Penn State.

The Packers will debut these uniforms on Sunday, October 20, against the Houston Texans.
