I’m pretty surprised by the total in this game overall, thinking these two bad defenses should warrant something higher than being below the key number of 45. Being able to adjust that total down to here makes for even more comfort in my mind, as I think these teams are more than capable offensively of generating this many points.
The Dolphins looked like the offense was starting to get in rhythm the past couple games, and now they’ll face a Jets defense that is still trading on name recognition from years ago. But they really can’t stop anything, and neither can Miami as both squads are allowing over 28 points per game. There really aren’t any weather considerations in Miami tonight other than the humidity wearing out Jets defenders even more, so I really think this adjusted total is a bargain.
Cincinnati Bengals @ Denver Broncos -1.5: 7:15 PM CT on ABC
The 1-2 Broncos and the 2-1 Bengals should have their records reversed, at the bare minimum, thanks to strange finishes and referee shenanigans. I just wonder what the spread of this game would be if that were the case, so I see this number as being relatively short and of course in prime teaser territory. Just asking the Broncos to essentially get this win in a crucial home game is not asking a lot in my opinion.
While the Denver defense has not exactly lived up to expectations, and Bo Nix is showing some troubling sophomore slump signs, this should not be a fair matchup with Joe Burrow not playing. I’d probably like the Broncos at a pick-em price even if Burrow was healthy just because that’s how awful the Cincy defense is, and the Broncos should get right against them here. The Bengals won’t look as bad as they did last week, but that was an aggressive defense like Denver’s that turned the game into a runaway, so I like the home team to win and cover this short number.
