Part of the second-tier of linebackers, Mack Wilson, 21, looks to capitalize on a weak linebacker draft and potentially be the third linebacker off the board. Wilson showcased his ability to defend the pass with six interceptions over the past two seasons, though his work against the run was less impressive. His ability to move, however, makes him a possible three-down NFL linebacker, provided he can tackle effectively – though his Pro Day 40 time hit at around 4.7. Wilson didn’t run at the Combine due to an injury. Certainly not in the same class as the two Devins atop the LB board but in the mix on Day 2.

What the analysts say

“He is today’s version of an NFL linebacker with adequate size, plus strength and toughness, speed pursue and an ability to handle coverage duties on any down. Wilson is like a classically trained musician who hits his notes on time, but the question is whether or not he can play as a free-form, improvisational talent when the opportunity arises. Either way, he’s a solid, three-down starter in any defensive scheme.” – Lance Zierlein, NFL.com

“Mack Wilson has a terrific ceiling as a starting MLB in the NFL. Wilson shows patience in reading the mesh point, speed to scrape sideline to sideline and short area quickness to defeat blocks. With top shelf hip mobility and range, Wilson is a three down linebacker who can make an impact in the passing game. That said, Wilson has only started 17 games and his consistency is of concern. Getting more reps should solidify his standing as a top-tier LB prospect.” – Kyle Crabbs, The Draft Network
