As one of the top high school players from the state of Missouri, Renell Wren failed to fulfill his four-star expectations at Arizona State. Nonetheless, he may have NFL potential because of his long-armed stature. Didn’t produce much in terms of interior pressure at Arizona State while he played a great deal of nose, generating just three career sacks. Has added some weight, which could make him a nose/3-tech hybrid going forward. Wasn’t given a significant role with the Sun Devils until his senior season, and his per-play production tailed off a bit, particularly against the run.

What the analysts say
“Enticing prospect offering size, strength and athleticism to entice NFL general managers who covet elite traits over college production. Wren’s play was uneven while aligned on the nose in 2018, but he should benefit from a move to defensive tackle in an odd or even front as a pro. The cheat code in unlocking his ability and production might rest in a team’s ability to correct his hands and feet while improving recognition. With all things considered, “boom or bust” might be an appropriate tag for him.” – Lance Zierlein, NFL.com
“Renell Wren has an explosive first step, one that could make him an attractive player with further polish. Wren’s transition to the pros will be complicated: he has the first step of a pass rush threat but very little to follow with if tasked with playing in a penetration role. On the flip side, Wren’s irregular hand strike and disengagement skills pose challenges to a two gap/nose tackle role as well. Wren is a high ceiling, low floor prospect.” – Kyle Crabbs, The Draft Network
