Once thought to be the next big Boise State quarterback, Ryan Finley hurt his ankle in 2015, which cleared the way for fellow prospect Brett Rypien. Meanwhile, Finley transferred to North Carolina State, where it worked out pretty well for him, too. Finley became a three-year starter with over 10,000 yards for the Wolfpack. His completion percentages improved each year, and he seemed to take a leap as a senior. Finished his career with 63 touchdowns against 30 interceptions — at one point almost breaking Russell Wilson’s passes-without-an-interception record.
Finley is generally a good decision-maker and has good size but doesn’t have unique arm strength, meaning he’ll have to excel pre-snap and by making smart reads at the next level.
Size
6-4, 213 pounds

Vertical: 30.5 inches

20-yard shuttle: 4.2 seconds (4th at position)
What the analysts say
“While Finley’s accuracy, production and mode of operation has been static over the last three years, his ability to improve in all areas has been impressive. He works well in a controlled environment, reads alignments and knows where the ball should go, but he failed to elevate his production against the best in-game competition and then again at the Senior Bowl. His intelligence and accuracy could find him work as a quality backup with the potential to find some future starts.” — Lance Zierlein, NFL.com
“Ryan Finley projects best as a back-up quarterback in the NFL. Finley struggles with mental processing despite being one of the most experienced passers in this year’s class and is missing the needed quickness through his feet and mind to play well under duress. As a result, Finley should be coveted by WCO systems who rely on quick dispersion of the ball and aim to groom him into a viable back-up quarterback for their roster. Very limited ceiling and not a future long term starter.” — Kyle Crabbs, The Draft Network
