Michael Floyd has been found in violation of the terms of his house arrest, according to Josh Weinfuss at ESPN.
A Scottsdale judge found Vikings WR Michael Floyd in violation of the terms of his house arrest for by testing positive for alcohol, which he claimed was the result of drinking too much kombucha. Floyd was sentenced to one day in jail and has to finish the last five days of his house arrest. Floyd can serve the rest of his sentence in Arizona.
That’s not a surprise, as ignorance of what’s going into your body was hardly a stalwart defense in the first place, and the story wasn’t rock-solid by itself at any rate.
A judgment handed down will likely add to Floyd’s pending suspension, and we have yet to hear from the NFL how long his original suspension — stemming from a DUI in Arizona — will be.
Given that violations of the NFL’s substance abuse policy grow increasingly harsh, Floyd may miss substantial time. He could be facing a two-to-four game suspension for the initial DUI conviction depending on how the NFL interprets his incidence at Notre Dame and whether this makes him a repeat offender.
A violation of the terms of a house arrest isn’t the same as getting another DUI, which would result in an additional eight-game suspension. But the net result may be two four-game suspensions, which could take Floyd out of half of the season.
UPDATE — The Vikings have released the following statement:
When we signed Michael Floyd, we hoped he would show signs of improvement and we continue to expect that he shows progress and a professional attitude. We believe Michael will be a productive member of the Vikings organization, both on and off the field. Pursuant to the ruling of the Arizona Court earlier today, Michael will serve the remainder of his sentence and we expect him to be with the team at the start of training camp in Mankato when the players report on July 26.
