The Flip Saunders Legacy Fund, established by the family of the late Minnesota Timberwolves president of basketball operations and head coach Flip Saunders, will make a donation of $6,000 to the Timberwolves & Lynx Basketball Academy at the Timberwolves vs. Houston Rockets game tonight. Debbie Saunders and Timberwolves general manager Milt Newton, will be on hand to present the check to the academy during the first timeout in the 3rd quarter.
The Flip Saunders Legacy Fund was established to aid and support deserving individuals or groups to continue the positive impact of the life of Flip Saunders. This donation to the Timberwolves & Lynx Basketball Academy will provide opportunities for area youth with a financial hardship to attend a Timberwolves or Lynx basketball camp or clinic.
“Flip was always very passionate about growing the game of basketball in this area, so this donation is a way to have an impact on the sport locally,” said Debbie Saunders. “Flip loved working with kids, so I can’t think of a better avenue to help honor his memory than to give kids an opportunity to experience the fun and instruction that comes from one of the Timberwolves Academy camps or clinics.”
The Minnesota Timberwolves & Lynx Basketball Academy provides camps and clinics throughout the year to enhance skill sets, basketball fundamentals, and create a new and fun environment for the youth around the community.
“We are extremely grateful to Debbie, Ryan, and the entire Saunders family and the Flip Saunders Legacy Fund for this generous gift,” said Jeff Munneke, Timberwolves vice president of fan experience and basketball academy. “This gift will allow us to expand the reach of our camps and clinics, and allow youth who may not have had an opportunity to experience what we offer.”[ Minnesota Timberwolves press release]
