Molesky's Weekend Wagers: Going All In

This is the weekend. The time has finally come. Every once in a long while, when the funds have accumulated to the extent that the massive bet is possible, all you can do is make the bet. The catch is trying to find a bet that will win, but also one not so good that you will win next to nothing on the bet. It is the perfect balance of gambling, the degenerate’s nirvana.

It is time for the monster wager. Get hyped!

My Bet

Taking the Alabama Crimson Tide as 13.5 point favorites – This is it. The one. The bet to let the money ride on. There are a couple reasons to lay the money on the line and let it ride with the Crimson Tide.

First: Betting on the Tide is a wager I can rest easy with. If you bet against a team like the Tide and lose, the thought of being stupid enough to bet against Alabama. Betting with the Tide is something that will allow me to live with myself.

Second: Alabama has been destroying teams left and right, like Ole’ Miss 66-3 or Vanderbilt 59-0. The team they play is Mississippi State Bulldogs, who have lost to Georgia 31-3 and Auburn 49-10, both teams are not Alabama.

Third: The defense of the tide is back in full force. Alabama allows 9.8 points per game along with only 244 total yards, racking up 29 sacks and 16 turnovers. The Tide is constantly in the opponents backfield, with 63 tackles for loss and 41 quarterback hurries. This group is nearly as scary as last season’s bunch, which will help preserve the lead and keep the spread safe.

Fourth: This is Alabama we’re talking about.

Other Bets

Taking the Oklahoma Sooners as 6.5 point favorites – The TCU Horned Frogs looked bad against Iowa State, in large part due to the poor play of quarterback Kenny Hill, aka Kenny Trill. Going forward, though, this team has all the ability to pick it up.

However, the Sooners are riding high led by quarterback Baker Mayfield. Mayfield is back in the Heisman limelight after a 598-yard, five-touchdown game against Oklahoma State. Now Mayfield is back at home, in a race for the Heisman trophy and the college playoff. Beating the Horned Frogs by a touchdown? A great bet.

Taking Detroit Lions on the money line – The Detroit Lions are playing the Cleveland Browns, and they are -600 favorites with a less-than-stellar money situation. But for the super-safe bet, going against Cleveland is a win.

Taking Chicago Bears on the money line – The Chicago Bears play the Green Bay Packers, and while believing in the Bears’ spread takes a lot of belief, the money line against the Packers has yet to fail us.

Taking Detroit Pistons on the money line – Two Detroit bets? Yes! The Detroit Pistons are at home against the Atlanta Hawks, a team that center Andre Drummond can wreak with his size. Avery Bradley and Tobias Harris, meanwhile, can pick the team apart from the outside. Not only is the team a solid offensive threat, the defense is ranked 9th in the league, only giving up 102 points per game while the Hawks are ranked 23rd. Double down on Detroit.
