Molesky's Weekend Wagers: On the Road

With a down week in college football as the country ramps up for rivalry weekend, the bets this weekend that I will turn your eye to are going to be heavy on the NFL and NBA. This weekend is all about road favorites. As always, my bets are going to have my money riding on them, so we will win or lose together. The other bets will feature wagers I may like on Saturday, but do not have the funds for them. Good luck.

My Bets

3-Team Moneyline Parlay

  • Minnesota Timberwolves (-275) @ Dallas Mavericks
  • Charlotte Hornets (-275) @ Chicago Bulls
  • Portland Trail Blazers (-305) @ Sacramento Kings

Every one of these teams is on the road for the weekend. However, the combined record of the teams they will play is 7-34. Minnesota and Portland both have great backcourts in Jimmy Butler/Andrew Wiggins and Damian Lillard/C.J. McCollum playing up against weak guard defenses that Dallas and Sacramento possess. Meanwhile, the Hornets pick-and-roll game with Kemba Walker getting the ball to Dwight Howard will give Chicago and their awful defense fits. This is as safe as a road bet can get.

5-Team Moneyline Parlay

  • Notre Dame Fighting Irish (-960) vs. Navy
  • LSU Tigers (-720) @ Tennessee
  • Iowa State Cyclones (-350) @ Baylor
  • San Diego Aztecs (-750) vs. Nevada
  • Texas Tech Red Raiders (+210) vs. TCU

This is the one college bet of the weekend, and for the most part, it involves a lot of favorites beating up on dog teams. The bet to watch in this group is the Red Raiders, who play host to No. 12 TCU Horned Frogs. Red Raiders quarterback Nic Shimonek is the better quarterback, facing off against Kenny Hill. This is largely because the Horned Frogs have played some turnover-happy games recently, turning the ball over four times in their last three. Takeaways and better signal-calling are the two keys for the Red Raiders.

Other Bets:

6-Point Teaser

  • Detroit Lions (+3) @ Chicago Bears
  • Kansas City Chiefs (-4.5) @ New York Giants

Both teams are on the road, playing awful teams in the Chicago Bears and New York Giants respectively. On the teaser, the Chiefs are -4.5 favorites while getting the Lions as +3 underdogs. Great value for some road favorites.

Under 51 Points

  • New Orleans Saints vs. Washington Redskins

The first reaction in any game the Saints play is to take the over. However, the new-look Saints team is here to play solid defense and run the ball, setting a franchise record with six scores on the ground against Buffalo. The Saints were more than comfortable with quarterback Drew Brees throwing under 200 yards, still rolling for a big road win. This is going to be a game that both teams will slog through, with a final score in the neighborhood of 24-17.

Moneyline Bet

  • Tottenham Hotspur (+185) vs Arsenal

In a coin flip game against their rival Arsenal, the gambler can grab a great plus value on the third best team in the Premier League. Harry Kane is one of the best players in the Premier League, with eight goals so far this season. He is backed by midfielders Son Heung-Min, Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli, who have amassed eight goals as well. However, in a tight rivalry game the defense will need to come up big. The Hotspur have scored 20 goals and only let up seven this season, up against an Arsenal defense that has allowed 16 goals. Tottenham wins a big game over a hated rival.
