Everson Griffen Earns NFC Defensive Player of the Month

Everson Griffen has earned the NFC Defensive Player of the Month honors, repeating an achievement he earned in 2014, also for the month of October. Griffen notched 6.0 sacks in five games, with at least one sack in each one of those games.

That statistic doesn’t come as much of a surprise to Vikings fans, who have eagerly followed Griffen’s sack streak to start the season, which now stands alone as a Vikings record.

According to NFL’s Next Gen Stats, Everson Griffen currently leads the league in quarterback pressures by a substantial margin and his six sacks in the month of October leads the league.

Though Griffen hasn’t been a tackle producer, the Vikings lead the league in yards allowed per carry to runs directed at the right defensive end/left tackle.

Griffen is on track to earning significant post-season honors, even if at some point the streak gets broken.
