TMZ has reported that Minnesota Vikings receiver Michael Floyd has violated the terms of his house arrest.
A rep for the Scottsdale City Court confirms … Floyd’s alcohol monitoring system flagged 5 events during June 11th and 12th. At least three of the events were described to us as “high alcohol tests.”
Floyd had previously cut a bargain with the state of Arizona to remove his ankle monitoring bracelet so he could pursue his football career, but was required to undergo random breathalyzer tests. Per TMZ, Floyd tested positive on the night of June 11.
Aside from that, Floyd also missed one of his mandated breathalyzer tests, which also violates the terms of his house arrest.
The Minnesota Vikings have issued the following statement in response: “We are aware of the situation involving Michael Floyd and are looking into the matter. We are still gathering facts and will withhold any further comment at this time.”
Floyd’s violation could lead to additional jail time and may increase the suspension the receiver may receive from the NFL, who have still not determined the time Floyd will need to serve suspension.
According to TMZ, Floyd will be back in court on June 26, where his legal situation will likely be clarified.
As for the Vikings, they may want to begin searching for another wide receiver — and hometown pass-catcher Eric Decker makes sense. Floyd’s availability to the team has not only been further jeopardized because of jail time, but the NFL has issued indefinite suspensions in the past for repeat offenders of their substance abuse policy.
If Decker isn’t an option, the Vikings will need to see more out of former first-round pick Laquon Treadwell, or they’ll develop a real depth problem.
