BREAKING: Rebekkah Brunson Re-Signs with Minnesota Lynx

One of the most decorated players in WNBA history is staying in Minnesota.

The Minnesota Lynx officially announced Thursday they have re-signed four-time All-Star and five-time WNBA champion Rebekkah Brunson.

For Brunson and the Lynx, it wasn’t about if a deal got done, but when. And with Thursday being the first day that teams can officially sign players during free agency, getting a deal done certainly didn’t take long.

“We are extremely happy that Rebekkah Brunson, one of the cornerstones of our franchise and the only player in league history with five WNBA Championships, will remain a Lynx,” Lynx head coach and general manager Cheryl Reeve said in the team’s release. “From the moment she arrived in Minnesota, Rebekkah has been a vital part of our franchise both on and off the court. She’s a tireless worker and passionate leader and we are thrilled that she’s decided to continue her career with us.”

Brunson will be entering her 15th year – ninth with the Lynx – in 2018, coming off of her best season since 2013.

In 2017, Brunson turned the clock back a handful of years, averaging 10.2 points (highest since 2013), 6.7 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.1 steals per game. She also found success from 3 for basically the first time in her career, shooting a career-high 34.8 percent from behind the arc.

Additional titles aside, the 36-year-old forward has the chance to make this season a historical one in Minnesota.

Brunson, who is already the only player in WNBA history with five WNBA titles, will need just 129 rebounds to become the league’s all-time leader in rebounds, trailing only Lisa Leslie (3,307) and Tamika Catchings (3,316). Brunson is already the franchise leader in rebounds (1,989) and double-doubles (55), while ranking second in blocks (161) and fourth in steals (247).

A day after one of the more surprising Lynx offseason moves occurred in Renee Montgomery leaving to join the Atlanta Dream, Minnesota finally gets some good free agent news.

One of the most decorated players in history has returned to the Lynx. And Brunson will get the chance to try and add to her already impressive resume in 2018.
