Lynx Remain Hot, Now Winners of Seven Straight

As of late, all they do is win.

The Minnesota Lynx continued to remain hot on Sunday afternoon in Arlington, Tex., beating the Dallas Wings, 76-72.

With the victory, Minnesota improved to 10-6 on the year and extended its winning streak to a WNBA-best seven games in a row.

Along with extending their winning streak and tallying a record of 8-2 in their last 10 games, the Lynx have moved into a tie with the Washington Mystics (10-6) for third place in the WNBA standings.

Minnesota just trails the first-place Phoenix Mercury (13-5) by two games for the top spot in the league.

If you remember, the Lynx were the 10th seed in the WNBA standings before their winning streak began, showing just how big of a turnaround they are putting together.

In Sunday’s win over the Wings, the Lynx escaped victorious thanks to some game-sealing free throws courtesy of Maya Moore.

With the Lynx up two points late in the game, Moore ended up sinking a pair of free throws on two separate trips to the free throw line to help Minnesota grab the road win.

In the first quarter, the Lynx were edged by the Wings, who held an 18-16 advantage.

In the second quarter, Minnesota made its biggest splash and extended its lead heading into halftime. The Lynx outscored the Wings 24-15 in the second to jump out to a 40-33 lead going to the break.

In the third quarter, a quarter Minnesota has traditionally played well in, Dallas gained some ground in fighting back into the game. The Wings outscored the Lynx 22-16 to cut the Minnesota lead to 56-55.

Minnesota ultimately pulled away in the fourth quarter to make it seven wins in a row.

The MVP-caliber duo of Moore and Sylvia Fowles led the way for the Lynx. Moore tallied 26 points, six rebounds and two steals in 31-plus minutes of action, recording her seventh straight 20-point performance. Fowles finished with a near double-double of 14 points and nine rebounds, adding three steals.

Seimone Augustus was a valuable third option for Minnesota in the game, finishing with 13 points on 6-of-13 shooting in over 29 minutes. Despite not scoring in the game, Lindsay Whalen was a team-best plus-16 with six assists in just under 26 minutes.

Off the bench, Cecilia Zandalasini continues to make the most of the opportunities the Lynx coach staff is providing her with, playing the most out of the second unit while tallying five points and three rebounds.

Along with Sunday’s win, the Lynx extended their winning streak at Dallas (formerly Tulsa) to 16 in a row, which is the longest road winning streak in WNBA history for one team against a single opponent.

Minnesota will return home for two games starting with facing the Indiana Fever at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Target Center. The Fever are struggling this year, to say the least, holding a record of 1-16.
