After taking down the Los Angeles Sparks in the 2017 WNBA Finals and securing the franchise’s fourth WNBA title, the Minnesota Lynx now are faced with the challenge of repeating in 2018.
And to kick off the 2018 campaign while receiving their rings and raising that fourth championship banner back at the renovated Target Center, the Lynx will host a very interesting opponent: the Sparks.
Minnesota announced Thursday afternoon that it will open the season at 4 p.m. on May 20 on ESPN2 against Los Angeles at Target Center in a rematch of the 2017 WNBA Finals, which the Lynx won in five games at the University of Minnesota’s Williams Arena.
Along with announcing who they will play and when the season opener will occur, the Lynx also released their full 2018 regular season schedule, which will consist of six nationally broadcasted games on ESPN2.
The 17-game home schedule includes nine weekend games — three Friday games, one Saturday and five on Sunday — with the rest falling on Tuesday (five), Wednesday (two) and Thursday (one). The annual camp day will fall on July 18 at noon against Indiana.
Another important event that will take place in the summer of 2018 will be the WNBA All-Star Game at 2:30 p.m. on July 28, which is being held at Target Center for the first time.
In their press release, the team said the preseason schedule and the full regular season broadcast schedules will be released at a later date.
