This one hurts on a deeply personal level since I’m going against my favorite WNBA player of all time in Candace Parker, and I’ve loved seeing her return to the league. The radiant star forward for the Chicago Sky led her team to a convincing Game 1 win, but I see the Phoenix Mercury bouncing back for this game.
There was a bit of controversy leading into the opening game of these WNBA Finals where the Mercury ended up with a significant rest and preparation disadvantage. It looks like it showed in a 14-point home loss to a team they went 3-0 against during the regular season with a plus-24 point differential. Phoenix has now had two days off to regroup from Sunday’s loss, and I expect them to rebound nicely in this spot.
All apologies to Parker, but this Mercury team is too loaded with talent for me to think they won’t make a statement here. The unstoppable Brittney Griner and ageless Diana Taurasi will carry Phoenix to a comfortable win to tie the series.
