Even the most die-hard fans of the Green and Gold understand that their beloved Packers have gotten a few bounces to go their way in 2021. Green Bay is the best team in the NFL. But, Green Bay is also vulnerable. Both of these can be true. Yet, in a season where no team in the NFL has truly separated themselves from the rest, vulnerability certainly doesn’t necessarily mean impending doom.
Colin Cowherd doesn’t agree. Cowherd discussed the Packers vulnerability, and whether it will rear its ugly head in the playoffs on Monday’s edition of his popular radio show, The Herd on Fox Sports Radio.
“They’re pretty and they’re talented.” Cowhered said. “Aaron’s teams are always pretty. But the playoffs are about getting in the octagon. They are 31st in yards allowed per carry. They are going to get absolutely controlled by San Francisco if they meet them in the playoffs. So when I look at Green Bay, I wouldn’t even classify it as kryptonite, it’s an unsolvable issue. You can run the ball on them. You look at the Rams, Cam Akers will be back with Sony Michelle. Tampa’s offensive line has two pro bowlers. Be very careful if you’re Green Bay.”
Citing their crazy goal line stops, and underwhelming performances Cowherd posits Aaron Rodgers, the likely back-to-back MVP and ultimate cheat code, has possibly hidden issues that might prevent a Super Bowl run.
“Green Bay is the fighter that wins on points. I’ve seen them out played by Cleveland this weekend, Aaron saves them. I’ve seen them out played by Cincinnati this year and Aaron saves them. I’ve seen them out played by San Francisco this year and Aaron saves them. Green Bays point differential, and this is what Vegas pays attention to, for a 12 and 3 team with Aaron Rodgers, the point differential is 59. 43 of that is two games against the Bears and one game against the Lions.
Their margin for error is very slim, they play too many close games. And I don’t want to hear about injuries for Green Bay, everybody’s injured, the whole league is injured. Cleveland had four picks, at Lambeau. And Cleveland using backup tackles had a chance to win that game light”
Cowherd may be correct in his assessment, but in a league filled with flawed teams Green Bay still stands near the top as someone you should probably put your money on.
