Ryen Russillo had former Green Bay Packers receiver James Jones on his latest podcast to preview the NFL season after a couple weeks of training camp. Jones came out firing, saying that the Kansas City Chiefs would be the worst team in their division.
Then, he reluctantly praised the Vikings as his sleeper in the NFC.
The NFC, man, the NFC is gonna be a dogfight, man. You know what I mean? It’s some strong teams in there, and to me, there’s some very weak teams in there. When it’s all said and done, you’re gonna be looking at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Green Bay Packers, the Rams. I know I’m missing one or two teams in there.
Once the playoffs hit, [it’s] gonna be some dogfights. But my sleeper, and I hate to say it, you know what I mean, because I got my Raiders gear on, but you know I’m Packers through-and-through as well. But the Vikings, you know what I mean?
The Vikings is kinda one of those teams like the Chargers where it’s like, every year, people are like, ‘Hey, man, they’re gonna turn that corner.’ But I truly think this is the year that the Vikings compete with the Packers for this division. I think this could be last couple games, it’s like, man, this division is coming down to the wire between the Green Bay Packers and the Minnesota Vikings.
I just like everything the Vikings have over there, man. They’ve built a really good offensive line around Dalvin Cook. Kirk Cousins is a quarterback I feel can win you come ballgames, you know what I mean? Last year, I felt his defense was really bad; that defense will be better.
But the Minnesota Vikings is my sleeper in the NFC.
Jones grew up in the Bay Area and played with the Oakland Raiders for a year, but he spent eight seasons in Green Bay. Therefore, it has to pain him to say that the Vikings can compete with the Packers in the NFC North this year.
Still, if he can say that, why can’t we believe in this year’s team?
