Matt LaFleur Blasts Recently Released Packer

Matt LaFleur rarely if ever calls out an individual player. No matter what’s going on with the Green and Gold, the head coach generally keeps everything in house. So apparently Kylin Hill must have really not lived up to internal expectations.

After Hills release on Tuesday LaFleur commented “Being a member of the Green Bay Packers, it’s a privilege. There are standards and expectations that are placed on every member of this team that we expect guys to live up to. I appreciate what Kylin’s been through, I know it hasn’t been easy coming back from that knee injury that he suffered a year ago, that was pretty devastating. He’s a guy we had high expectations for, and realize he’s in a loaded room, but regardless of your role big or small, we expect guys to come to work and be supportive and own that role to the best of your ability. If you don’t do that, that’s what happened.”

When asked if the decision to cut Hill was less about what kind of football player he is than things away from the field, LaFleur answered, “Yeah, I would say so.”

Hill’s time in Green Bay started off well as he carved out a role as the RB3 in an offense with 2 amazing running backs. But after recovering from an ACL injury he was surprisingly cut this week. It appears that maybe this was about somebody being unhappy with their role. Although I appreciate LaFleur taking a stand and holding players to standards it is in direct contrast with the Amari Rodgers situation. I get that one of them may be an on the field issue and the other one may be an attitude problem, but if you’re going to hold everything to a Green Bay standard, you can’t just keep forcing bad players onto the field because you took them with a draft pick. LaFleur would be wise to take his methods and apply them across the board from now on. Had he done that in the first place, Rodgers would have been cut long before this week when he and Kylin both got released.
