Was it pretty? No. Was it entertaining? Not overly. At least not until the very end. But still, Sunday in Tampa Bay we got to see the GOAT versus the BOAT.
The greatest of all time took on the best of all time as Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers narrowly hung on to defeat Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers thanks to a failed two-point conversion.
Games like these are meant to be a celebration. A pure enjoyment of football bliss.
It’s possibly the last match up between two of the best who have ever played the sport. And despite its lack of fireworks, the game left no shortage of decent storylines. Hell, Aaron Rodgers admitted in a post game interview that he was tipped off about something on the two point conversion due to the Jumbotron operator. That’s a leading tv bite right there if I’ve ever heard one.
But what do you think the national media chose to focus on? You guessed it. They once again put on full display the Tom Brady Aaron Rodgers double standard.
Whether it was First Take, Get Up, Undisputed or anything in between, every show on the planet was talking about Tom Brady‘s lack of weapons. Michael Irvin gave a speech about how you can’t expect more from Tom than what he gave yesterday. Colin Cowherd dedicated damn near an entire episode to the Packers looking broken due to the way they WON THE GAME.
Where were all of these people two weeks ago when the exact same situation was happening with Green Bay? When they were down two starting offensive tackles and their number one wide receiver? I’ll tell you where they were, on the exact opposite side of the argument. Nestled into their safe little houses in hypocriteville.
“Aaron Rodgers wasn’t being nice enough to his non-young new receivers.”
“Aaron Rodgers needs to be a better leader.”
“Aaron Rodgers is responsible for fixing this situation.”
“Aaron Rodgers has the worst body language you’ve ever seen.”
Did anybody see Tom Brady‘s body language yesterday?
Yet Tampa Tom gets the eternal pass from the media because of his championships and cheesy smile.
Don’t mention that he’s had twice as many top 10 defenses as any other Hall of Fame quarterback in existence. Don’t mention the insane amount of weapons that he’s had to play with in his career. And for sure don’t mention his ability to take low salaries so he can stack a team because he has a wife who makes hundreds of millions of dollars.
It’s just getting ridiculous. Never has the double standard been more extremely displayed than it was the day after this big Packers victory. The two situations are nearly identical and everyone is giving Tom a pass in the exact situation where they vilify Aaron.
I’m sorry that Aaron won’t be the bad guy that you want him to be? I’m sorry that you keep running stories all off-season about how pissed off he is and he keeps showing up to Green Bay happy and content and playing winning football. .
I think Tom Brady is amazing and deserves all of his success, but Aaron certainly doesn’t deserve the double standard that comes his way because of it.
Yesterday was a big win for Rodgers and his team regardless of what these talking heads will tell you. See-through the hypocrisy. See through the double standard. See the best quarterback to ever played professional football.
