The Minnesota Vikings traded for former Arizona Cardinals quarterback Joshua Dobbs, according to NFL Network insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero. Josina Anderson first reported that the Vikings and Cardinals are swapping picks. Minnesota will send a sixth-round pick for Arizona’s seventh-rounder in 2024 to complete the transaction.

Dobbs has made eight starts for the 1-7 Cardinals this year, completing 62.8% of his passes for 1569 yards, with eight touchdowns and five interceptions. However, Arizona head coach Jonathan Gannon announced on Monday that he is benching Dobbs in favor of either fifth-round rookie Clayton Tune or franchise quarterback Kyler Murray.

Murray has been injured this season and could return this week, but he’s likelier to make his first start this year in Week 10.

The Pittsburgh Steelers drafted Dobbs in the fourth round of the 2017 draft. He played in two games for Pittsburgh and made two starts for the Tennessee Titans last year. Dobbs has been one of the best-scrambling quarterbacks this season, according to NextGen stats. However, PFF ranks him 28th of 36 eligible quarterbacks, giving him a 62.1 grade.

Kirk Cousins suffered a season-ended Achilles injury in Minnesota’s 24-10 win over the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field. Jaren Hall replaced him and went 3-for-4 for 23 yards, completing a third-down pass to T.J. Hockenson. However, he also lost a fumble. Kevin O’Connell said on SiriusXM that the Vikings are preparing the fifth-round pick to start against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday but says Dobbs may be ready to play.
