Dan Orlovsky Pushes Back On Aaron Rodgers

If you had to make a Mount Rushmore of current ESPN personalities Dan Orlovsky might as well be every face.

Rarely behaving the way that so many of the talking heads do, Orlovsky is reasonable, well thought out, and interesting. More importantly, for Packers fans, he has been one of the few rational analysts when it comes to Green Bay. He’s defended the team and Aaron Rodgers when the critiques were outrageous and criticized them when they were valid.

Wednesday Rodgers went on the Aubrey Marcus podcast and amongst other things, while discussing his decision making process Rodgers, stated:

“There’s a finality to the decision and I don’t make it lightly and I don’t want to drag anybody around…and look I’m answering questions about it because I get asked about it. I’m talking about it because it’s important to me, if you don’t like it and you think it’s drama and you think I’m being a diva or whatever then just tune it out…but this is my life it’s important to me and I’ll make a decision soon enough and we’ll go down that road.”

Although there is certainly some validity to Rodgers point, on Get Up on ESPN Orlovsky brought some non-Rodgers focused perspective to the conversation.

“Yes it’s your life and it’s your decision but there’s a butterfly effect to a lot of that decision and there’s teams that are sitting there waiting on your information. Are you going to play, are you not going to play? And it can’t just be well this is me and only me…this has to be something where you are conscious of the ramifications of other people that are waiting on that decision.”

Orlovsky went on to discuss Rodger’s fit in any other locker room in the league and isn’t convinced it will be easy given the above. Click the video below for his full thoughts.

It’s a tough situation and there’s not necessarily a right or wrong, but Orlovsky is spot on in pointing out that there are more people involved in the situation than just Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers front office. This is one of the biggest critiques of Rodgers. Many feel he acts in a selfish, or at the very least a self focused way. It’s why Rob Gronkowski and so many other people continue to point at his use of language when addressing questions.

No one knows how this is going to turn out, but to Orlovsky’s point I don’t think it’s unreasonable to believe that Rodgers’ way of doing things is creating problems for others. It’s also not unreasonable to think those same ways could create problems for him and whichever team he chooses to play for.
