Jordan Morgan Is the Biggest Wild Card On Green Bay’s OL

Last year, the Green Bay Packers offensive line delivered its worst pass-blocking performance of the decade. If the offense is going to take the next step in 2026, that unit has to be significantly better. The wild-card factor in all of this is Jordan Morgan, who should open the season as Jordan Love’s blindside protector.

The Packers drafted Morgan in 2024 to play tackle, but he spent his rookie season entirely at guard. Then, in 2025, the Packers used him all over the offensive line, because he played more than 500 snaps at guard and another 270 at tackle. Notably, the only start of his career so far came at left tackle in Green Bay’s Week 18 loss to the Minnesota Vikings.

With Rasheed Walker gone, the path is finally clear for the 2024 first-round pick to return to the role Green Bay originally drafted him to play. The biggest question now is how quickly Morgan adapts to left tackle, because he is easily the biggest uncertainty in the entire offensive line group. If he settles into the position, the Packers gain stability at one of the most important spots on the roster. If not, it could create a ripple effect across the rest of the O-line and force Green Bay to reshuffle up front.

Let’s say Morgan adapts quickly and starts playing like a legitimate franchise left tackle. If that happens, the Packers can feel much more comfortable letting Anthony Belton, who’s much more suited to play on the outside, settle into his guard responsibilities instead of constantly preparing him to kick outside.

But if Morgan struggles, everything changes. Belton could end up moving to tackle, which would create another hole somewhere else along the offensive line. Would Morgan slide back inside to guard? Would Jager Burton step into the lineup? Could Green Bay move Sean Rhyan back to right guard, and if that happens, who takes over at center?

That’s why Morgan’s development is such a massive wild card for this offensive line. His performance at left tackle could impact not only the stability of Jordan Love’s blindside but the structure of the entire unit around him.

Fortunately for Green Bay, the early signs around Morgan have been encouraging. Earlier this week, Hall of Famer Joe Thomas attended practice in Green Bay and came away impressed with what he saw from the Packers’ projected starting left tackle. Obviously, it is still very early in the offseason process, but when praise comes from one of the best offensive linemen of his generation, it is worth paying attention to.

“Jordan Morgan, he’s a great athlete,” Thomas told ESPN Milwaukee. “He’s got exceptional footwork. He’s powerful. I was sitting there waiting to give him a bunch of tips about things that I thought he could do a better job of. We watched film that morning, and I said to him, honestly, buddy, there’s a couple little things that I would do differently if it was me, but that’s more specific to just how I played, and it’s not like it’s better or worse than what you’re doing.”

“We talked about a few things in general, but overall, I really was impressed with how he moved, the fastidiousness with which he approached his craft,” Thomas added. “I thought that everything I saw on the field was just impressive with where he placed his hands. Now, it was on a bag, granted, but I thought that he was just doing a really good job with that footwork, that technique, that hand placement, just the focus that he was playing with, how quick he was moving, getting up to the second level on his combination block.”

Ultimately, the Packers don’t need Jordan Morgan to become an All-Pro overnight. They need him to prove he can be the long-term answer at left tackle. If he takes that step in 2026, Green Bay’s offensive line suddenly looks much more stable moving forward.
