The Minnesota Timberwolves have announced the signing of Andrew Wiggins to a multi-year contract extension. According to Shams Charania of The Vertical, it’s a 5-year deal worth 146.5 million, with no player or team options attached.
“I’m very excited to continue my career with the Timberwolves,” said Wiggins in a press release. “I love it here. The fans and organization have supported me from my first day here in Minnesota. I want to thank Glen Taylor, Tom Thibodeau, the entire coaching staff and my teammates for believing in me. We’ve had some good times over the last three seasons, but the best is yet to come. I look forward to doing right by them and bringing this team to the postseason.”
Wiggins had career highs in points, assists, and three point percentage last season. Though, in order to earn the contract in the eyes of many, he will have to improve his defense dramatically going forward in his career. Among small forwards a year ago, Wiggins finished dead last in defensive real plus-minus.
