“If he wants it, and they want him, I’m cool.”
That was the summary sentence that fell out of Paul Allen’s mouth after a passionate proclamation on Jim Harbaugh’s candidacy for the Minnesota Vikings head coaching position. The Voice of the Minnesota Vikings spent the second hour of his Nine to Noon radio show on KFAN laying out why Harbaugh was a potential great decision for the organization.
If Jim Harbaugh wants this job and that brilliant mix of offensive mind and skills with players of any era is dead set to help take you to the Super Bowl, in my opinion the race is over and you double his pay. The race is over. If he’s all in, you double his pay and you make him your coach okay. There is so much that goes into getting a quarterback with just 10 starts to the Superbowl Okay there is so much that goes into getting a quarterback with just 10 starts to the Super Bowl quarterback So much around it with the protection, the running schemes, the quarterback runs… it’s just a lot and Jim is just really really smart.
For those worried about Harbaugh’s ability to connect with today’s players PA was quick to dispel that idea.
He’s working with college kids now. He’s been working with kids for half a decade. So when it comes to working with this era and this generation of player that’s like the least of my concerns with him.
And for those worried that Harbaugh would be too similar to recently fired Mike Zimmer, PA wasn’t having it.
I disagree with that. First of all Zimmer is 10 years older and secondly they’re just different people. Birky(Matt Birk) played for his brother and knows Jim in and out. Jim is just different than Zim.
We will see what happens as Harbaugh is set to interview with the organization on Wednesday, but if Allen had it his way it appears he would be handing out a contract before the high-profile coach walked out of the building.
