Brett Favre Sucks

Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre holds high over his head the NFC Championship trophy after the Packers' 23-10 win over the San Francisco 49ers at San Francisco's 3Com Park, Sunday, Jan. 11, 1998. Brett Favre With Nfc Championship Trophy

Brett Favre sucks.

It’s not an easy sentence to type. Not for a kid who grew up in small town Wisconsin in the nineties. Favre is so tightly connected to my childhood and love for football. The memory of him racing around the field after a Super Bowl win with his helmet in the air, incredible. Brett Favre Mic’d up was better than most games played by other teams. He so perfectly embodied the sport that so many of us can’t get enough of. We thought he was everything. But the truth is…he sucks.

The quarterback who gave everything on the field has does the opposite off it. This is a selfish man who has rarely faced the consequences that he has deserved for his actions.

He showed everybody who he was by partying his way out of Atlanta.

He showed everybody who he was by sending a picture of his wonky penis to a female reporter.

He showed everybody who he was with how he handled his exit from Green Bay.

Brett Favre is in the Brett Favre business and he certainly doesn’t care how it affects anyone around him.

But these new allegations? These are something even beyond the normal Favre suckage. Favre is accused of funneling millions out of a welfare fund to pay for a volleyball stadium.

I understand in today’s political landscape anything that gets within a mile of a political conversation will create division along party lines. No matter the nuance of the topic, people will line up and side with their team. But even though politics are involved, this should not be one of those stories. This is about right and wrong not left and right. And to be completely clear I am as non-political as non-political gets. I care as much about Republicans and Democrats as I do about the Lions and Bears.

But this is stealing twice. Right out of the taxpayers pocket and directly from the hands of poor people in your home state. Favre is the opposite of Robin Hood. He steals from the hard-working and the poor to give to a division one athletic program.

I don’t care if you agree with welfare as a system or if you’re the biggest volleyball fan in the world, what a load of evil horsesh*t.

And every day more comes out. He’s now linked to misappropriating funds from his own charity to help build another volleyball facility when his daughter was in high school.

The brewing outrage is perhaps no surprise to some residents of Hattiesburg who helped erect another Favre passion project: a $1.4-million volleyball facility for Oak Grove High School in 2015.

In January of that year, community newspaper the Lamar Times reported Brett and Deanna Favre advocated for the gym since their daughter Breleigh was a sophomore and avid volleyball player there. “They contacted Mike Rozier, a local builder, and it really grew from there,” the school district’s then-superintendent told the outlet, adding, “Currently nine teams use the OGHS gym. There is a great need for this facility.”

A review of nonprofit tax records reveals that Favre’s foundation, Favre4Hope, sent $60,000 to the booster club of suburban Oak Grove, which is among the state’s highest-rated high schools. The donation stood out among his group’s regular beneficiaries which include the Make-A-Wish Foundation, the Special Olympics, cancer charity the Pink Ribbon Fund, and Hope Haven, which serves abused and neglected children in Mississippi.

This is the man who built an entire persona around being “the everyman.” He wears wranglers. He drives an old truck. He’ll throw the pigskin around with you and your buddies and then have a beer. BULLSH*T. He steals from people who are forced to drive old trucks. And if he saw an endorsement deal on the left side of the road and a bunch of Packers fans drowning ion the right, he’d plug his ears and go collect his check. This is an elitist who hob knobbed with politicians to take from the type of people who supported him throughout his whole career.

Aaron Rodgers consistent play and lack of soul crushing interceptions have been enough to elevate him above Favre in the minds of most Packer fans. But if those things didn’t do it, this should.

I always thought it was silly when people burned jerseys. What an overly dramatic reaction. But I think I’m starting to get it. Honestly, I wouldn’t even waste the money it cost on the gas and matches. My old number four jersey is going in the trash. You can have him Minnesota.

Brett. Favre. Sucks.
