Michael Lombardi Calls Out Matt Lafleur

“How many more big games is Lafleur going to have to lose before somebody says maybe there’s a problem here?” Those are the words that trusted insider Michael Lombardi threw out as he launched into a long and cutting criticism of Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur. “At what point does this guy have to have some accountability?”

Lombardi was quick to point out Lafleur and the offense’s failures on third down against an average Lions defense. He’s not wrong. Going 4-12 when everything matters is not a good look. We watched teams succeed against the Lions defense all year long, but with the money on the line and one of the best quarterbacks of all time somehow this team couldn’t pull it together?

And that’s been the story. Terrible on third and fourth down and in the red zone. These are the places an elite offensive coach should be his most successful. Everyone can talk about lack of weapons and this and that, but there was enough going positive on this team that LaFleur should have been far more successful.

“Everybody wants to blame the quarterback, but at some point this is a three dimensional game. And I don’t even think Detroit played their A game…Aaron Glen just out coached Lafluer. He didn’t have as many good players but he out coached him.”

The nearly 13 minute long segment touched almost every part of how the Packers are being run including Quay Walker’s behavior.

The whole thing is a must watch.

It would be ridiculous to be calling for Matt Lafleur‘s head currently. But it would be equally ridiculous to not be discussing it. From his unwillingness to move on from players like Amari Rodgers to his insistence on keeping around Joe Barry, LaFleur has cornered himself with numerous bad decisions. Heading into next season his seat should be deservedly hot, regardless of who his quarterback is.
