It’s not unusual for the national and social media winds to sweep up a large quote and give a small part of it undue meaning. And that is what has once again happened in Green Bay this week.
Blasted across X and Instagram you could find Brian Gutekunst’s seemingly heavy words about his first year starter Jordan Love.
“These are going to be a very important 10 games.” Gutekunst said in a quote that has been directly tied to Jordan Love’s future.
But what has been lost in the translation is Gutekunst’s longer and more meaningful comment. It’s one that doesn’t stray from the consistent message that he and the rest of the front office and coaching staff have pushed since the moment Love became starter.
“I think he’s done a lot of really good things,” the GM said. “Really like the way he’s responded to the adversity, how he’s led the team. Again, we’ve got to be better as a unit, and I expect that to happen over the next 10 games. And I think that we’re going through some things that we knew we would go through. We haven’t had the results that we want, but I do like the way guys are responding to things.”
Regardless of how anyone on the outside wants to frame this season anyone who truly knew the situation or team understood that this year would be a process.
“I think it’s been a work in progress for the entire offense.” Gutekunst continued. “There’s been glimpses, particularly in the second halves, of really good football. But we have not started very well. So, I think that group, that unit as a whole has a lot of work to do. But at the same time, they’re kind of committed to the process, believe in that group of guys and expect better results coming.”
So while the winds of drama swirl, this is your daily reminder that although quotes and memes may run wild, this team is in the range of where it thought it might be and it still has eyes on where it wants to go. Aaron Rodgers struggled to 6-10 his first season. Juggernauts are not built in a first year. Let’s all sit back, like Gutekunst, and evaluate the next 10 games. But let’s do it in line with his full quote not the divisive short version being thrown around.
