Locks
Packers -6.5 @ San Francisco (-110): I was skeptical to put this one in the locks simply because Nick Mullens looked like Patrick Mahomes closing out that game against Seattle last week, and this Packers defense has been streaky. But since then, Niners wide receiver Kendrick Bourne tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday, and the 49ers had to shut down their facility on top of having to sideline Trent Williams, Brandon Aiyuk, and Deebo Samuel for contact tracing.
San Francisco is also without George Kittle, Tevin Coleman and a slew of other players due to injury. The Packers should bounce back after a terrible loss to the Vikings last week against a San Francisco team that just isn’t ready for a football game right now.
Degenerates
Wyoming (-3) @ Colorado State (-110): Colorado State did not have a good showing in its opener last week against a rebuilding Fresno State team. The Rams got absolutely torched throughout the game and needed a score with under a minute left to cut the final margin to 21.
In comes Wyoming who seems like the sleeper to watch in the Mountain West early. Their 3-point loss in OT at Nevada is looking better and better as we move through the season, and last week’s dominant win over Hawaii tells me that they are on the other end of the conference spectrum from CSU. With uncertainty at QB, I don’t see the Rams being able to throw against Wyoming, and nobody can run on this defense. I expect a fairly low scoring game where I’m willing to lay a short road price.
